Our earliest memory of beer is that of our dad enjoying the company of his friends over a pint of Pilsner. After we came of age, we remember partaking in brews while having conversations with our parents, friends, and loved ones. As the years passed, we learned to appreciate how brews brought people together and generated some bubbly conversations!
Our brewing journey started about 7 years ago in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Two brothers – Dhruv and Harsh – began brewing beer in their basement, driven by fond memories and an intense desire to brew some delightful suds. Countless evenings were spent in our basement, experimenting with different malts, yeasts, adjuncts, and beer styles to perfect our craft. At times, it felt like painstaking labor to concoct a beer from scratch. However, seeing our friends and family members light up with joy after the first sip of a well-made batch felt incredibly rewarding. Unbeknownst to us at that time, the seed to start our brewery had already been planted.
Being in the restaurant business, a micro-craft brewery seemed like a natural extension. However, the idea truly came to fruition after we attended Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, last year. We felt like being part of a global beer-loving family, sharing a feeling of warmth, friendliness, and good cheer, or as the Germans call it - Gemütlichkeit (guh-moot-lee-kite). It reminded us of the joy we experienced from sharing our homebrews. At that instant, we knew we had to get into the brewing business.
We put our complimentary skill set to work, with Dhruv perfecting the recipes and doing the heavy lifting to get the project off the ground. Harsh laid out the financial plan for the micro-brewery. After months of planning, preparations, some trials, and tribulations, we opened the doors to our micro-brewery on July 1st, 2023. We named it "Sandy Shore Brewing" as a tribute to our fondness for sunshine, sand, and the ocean.
Our plan is to offer up to 8 unique flavors by the fall of 2023. We are committed to using only the highest quality ingredients for our beer. We’d love for Sandy Shore Brewing to not only be a place to enjoy a cold pint but also for people to gather, laugh, form friendships, and, above all, spread some Gemütlichkeit!
P.S. Ein Prosit der Gemütlichkeit is regularly played in any Bavarian beer tent. For the lyrics and the meaning of the song, please click here.
